Witches costumes fro halloween

October 13, 2010

Halloween is a family time for us to find reasons to dress up as something else. Kids often choose their favorites from cartoons, movies, and television. Adults have many more options, and some adult costumes are not suitable for children, such as a French maid uniform. There are now plenty of Halloween costume ideas for any age group.

You can wear tried and true costumes such as the witches costumes and pirate costumes. Or, you can search for new Halloween witches costume by visiting eclectic costume shops or designing your own look from scratch.

Here are some Halloween costume ideas.

New from Old Favorites

Dress up in a traditional Halloween favorite such as a witch. For something different, try to find interesting Halloween costume ideas using the old favorites as a spin off. For example, if you want to dress up as a witch, you donít need to find an ugly witch costume to get the job done. You can create your own costume and give the character your own unique spin.

Superhero Costumes

It is also fun to dress up as superheroes such as Spider Man, Superman, and Wonder Woman. However, you donít always need to dress up as an established superhero. How about making up your own? You can be as silly or serious as you want. The beauty of this is that you can create a hero using any theme you like. Depending on your audience, you can make your hero comical, farcical, cute, ugly, etc. Itís completely up to you.

pirate costumes

August 4, 2009

Pirate costumes today celebrate and romanticize history with such characters as
Long John Silver, Captain Hook, Black Sam, Black Bart and Jack Sparrow. The adventure and romance of pirates appeals to nearly everyone. The sad truth is that many pirates ate poorly, and often lived on bananas and limes. Very few actually became fabulously wealthy and many of them died at a young age.

For as long as people have used the oceans as trade routes there have been pirates. The earliest documented instances of piracy date back to the 13th century BC.

And for as long as people have had fancy dress costume parties there have been pirates! (Although it is uncertain as to when the first documented instance was…)

If you are thinking about going to a fancy dress costume party dressed up as a pirate then you might want to consider what items of clothing are most pirate-like.

For a man the obvious possibilities would include- a black and white stripey top, a waistcoat, dark trousers/jeans with boots over the top and an eye patch. You might even go as far as a bandana but a parrot on the shoulder would probably only appeal to the brave. Don’t forget about authentic looking pirate weaponry (obviously not real or you’ll end up walking the plank!). Perhaps you could equip yourself with a plastic sword or musket. Behaviour at the event should be as realistic as possible with regular exclamations of ‘Aaarr!’ and, if it is a chilly evening, the odd ‘Shiver me timbers!’

As a buccaneer a lady can become decidedly wicked and adventurous with her costume! There are a lot of pirate design costumes that are saucy and exciting. Some costumes may even include telescope, eye-patch and dagger! If you are feeling daring then you could opt for dressing as a sexy pirate wench complete with a lace up front halter dress, fishnet stockings and a sash round your middle.

For the meeker lady Renaissance Fairy peasant garb is just as acceptable. A chemise or peasant blouse with full sleeves, a bodice or corset, and under-skirt and accenting over-skirt. If she was a lady pirate, she may also be wearing a frock coat over this costume, but for sure she will also be carrying all traditional weaponry, including a (plastic) bodice dagger!

If you are organising a themed pirate fancy dress costume party then you could also make up some pirate-style games and activities for your guests. How about a treasure-hunting game?

Try drawing a map on a piece of plain paper, stain it with coffee and burn the edges for an authentic looking treasure map.

At the end of the treasure trail you could even have some appropriate booty! How about a treasure chest full of chocolates and goodies, instead of the usual boring old jewellery and sovereigns?

There are all sorts of possibilities for a really good party. Let your imagination go wild.

Whether you are dressing in pirate garb for a fancy dress costume party or you are planning a themed evening with friends you can be sure that it will great fun!

Why Pirate Costumes Are a Must For Fancy Dress

June 4, 2009

Anyone who has ever been to a fancy dress party will have seen people wearing pirate costumes. They have always been a popular choice amongst party-goers. Just as you will always get the obligatory monsters, robots, clowns and vampires you are bound to see guests dressed up as swashbucklers. Some outfits just seem to have a timeless appeal to people.

Throughout the ages pirates’ costumes have held a certain romance about them. The buried treasure, the beautiful women (albeit usually kidnapped) and the exciting sword fights. If you are planning to go to a fancy dress party using this theme for your outfit then it is good to know that pirates costumes are not only instantly recognisable but are easily obtained from a wide variety of fancy dress companies. If you have at look on the internet then it will not take very long for you to find a great selection of pirates’ costumes. You can keep your attire relatively simple or you can really go to town with it. Certain elements, however, are essential when dressing-up; there is the hat or bandana (with or without a ‘Jolly Roger’) and the eye patch. If you use these as a starting point then you cannot go far wrong. There are, of course, other items of clothing that are synonymous with pirates’ costumes such as a black and white stripey top, a wide leather belt with a large buckle and high leather boots. Waistcoats are another garment that many pirates have worn in films over the years.

Being Batman For Fun

April 1, 2009

When you ask a child which superhero they would most like to be you can guarantee that Batman would be a popular answer. The chant of ‘Dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner-BATMAN!’ is synonymous with children’s playgrounds everywhere.

Most children (and a great deal of adults as well!) would get a real kick out of dressing up in Batman costumes. You can rest assured that anyone turning up at fancy-dress parties wearing Batman costumes would be hard pushed to find many people that asked who they were supposed to be.

The famous character, who started out as ‘The Bat Man’, first appeared in ‘Detective Comics’#27 in 1939. In 1940 DC Comics went on to give ‘Batman’ his own self-titled publication. Since then ‘Batman’ has gone on to become one of the world’s most famous fictional characters. In May of this year it will be seventy years since his first outing as ‘The Caped Crusader’!

Batman has enjoyed a phenomenal success since his conception, not just being restricted to newspapers, books, comics and graphic novels, but going on to star in a string of hit TV shows and movies spanning over forty years. His character has evolved through several changes including the rather camp tongue-in cheek mid-sixties series starring Adam West. In many ways, however, he has also stayed the same.

The Batman costumes have remained much the same. There has always been the dark and mysterious side to Batman and the nineteen-eighties saw a return to this darker image with a shift in style evident in his comics and the Tim Burton movie.

Although our hero is not blessed with any strange or mystical powers like most of his counter- parts his life is still very much full of action and adventure. Like most superheroes Batman has a rather drab alter-ego (in this case it is Bruce Wayne) and a trusty side-kick known simply as Robin.

Over the years Batman has gained a large cult following and he has become a household name. Even many of his arch-enemies are much heard of such as The Riddler, The Joker and The Green Goblin. Because of the familiarity of all things Batman it would not be unusual to overhear sons, fathers and even grandfathers discussing the hero’s weaponry, foes and adventures with great earnest.

Over the years the Batman franchise has grown and grown. The range of toys, comics, sweets, Batman costumes and posters is a formidable one. Not to forget the seemingly endless movies, the most recent of these being ‘The Dark Knight’ with Christian Bale playing Batman for a second time.

And so if you are considering what to wear for a fancy- dress party then Batman costumes make a great choice. Donning an eye mask, cloak and tights for an evening to go out dressed as ‘The Caped Crusader’ is bound to be great fun! Plus your Batman costumes will be instantly recognisable.

Perhaps you have a friend or partner who would consider accompanying you in costume as Robin…
